Maternity Care

We have an excellent and experienced midwife who see our patients with us; Sue Lewis. We are very lucky to have such a competent midwife in our midst.

Generally the doctors and nurses in Health New Lynn will organise the initial investigations, preferably when you are planning to get pregnant. It is important for women to take the vitamin folic acid when trying to get pregnant.

When you are pregnant we advise continuing the folic acid for the first three months and also taking a small amount of iodine (neurokare) for baby’s brain development.

We also advise screening for Down’s syndrome at about 12 weeks with a scan and special bloods tests. Then we refer you on to Sue, or other midwives, who will guide you through the rest of the pregnancy and delivery. We all work as a team so everyone can support you, and your family though the whole process and after.

The joy of bringing another little human being (or more!!) into the world is one of the most exciting times of one’s life.

Unfortunately it is not always peaches and cream and things can go wrong, including miscarriages, infections and abnormalities so we like to keep a pretty close eye on things.

We have a very experienced and skilled team of doctors and midwives working at Health New Lynn including doctors who have between them delivered thousands of babies, although none of them deliver any more. We have two very excellent and experienced midwives who see our patients with us, Anne Stormont and Sue Lewis. We are very lucky to have two such competent midwives in our midst.
