Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see a doctor or nurse now?

Yes, there are always doctors and nurses available at our walk-in clinic from 8am-8pm weekdays and from 9am to 2pm on weekends. The clinic handles all general practice accident and emergency consultations and provides acute care.

Can I enrol with a doctor?

Yes, we are taking new patients. Phone 09 827 8888 to ask which doctors are taking on new patients or come into the centre directly to enrol. Some doctors have a full practice currently and will not be taking new patients.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

We understand that life can be unpredictable sometimes and you may need to change or cancel your appointment. We ask that you cancel as soon as you become aware that you are unable to make your appointment, in order to allow the opportunity for others to take your appointment slot.

How much do you charge?

Our standard fees schedule can be viewed here. Fees are based on a 15 minute appointment. Whilst we always aim to keep this updated there may be other charges which apply e.g. depending on the type of procedure and materials used. If you feel that you may need longer or have more to discuss, then please book a double appointment. There is an additional charge for longer appointments.

There is no charge for enrolled children under the age of six.

Please note that if you are Maori, Pacific or live in an area defined as New Zealand Deprivation Index quintile 5, you may be eligible for additional subsidies. Please ask reception when you enrol.

Health New Lynn’s policy is that payment is expected at the time of your consultation unless other arrangements have been made.

Do I always have to see the same doctor?

We encourage people to get to know one doctor but for convenience you are welcome to see any of the doctors or nurses who are available. We recommend for continuity of your care that if you have an on-going illness that you see your usual doctor where practical.

Can a doctor see me at home?

Yes, it is possible for a doctor to make a home visit, but only if you are very unwell and cannot make it to the surgery. We cannot always visit urgently. Additional charges will apply.

What do I need to do for my first appointment?

If this is the first time you will be visiting us, you will need to book a 30 minute appointment. This is in order that we can collect all the necessary information, as well as get an idea about your medical background. Please bring with you any relevant medical documents that you may have (for example, recent hospital discharge summary) and a list of all medications that you take.

Who do I see when my doctor is away?

At Health New Lynn if your regular doctor is away or unavailable you can see any of our doctors. If you are not sure who you should see, our practice nurses will be happy to advise you.

Why is my GP often not ready to see me on time?

We do our best to keep to appointment times. However, we place priority on giving each patient the attention they need and it is often difficult to anticipate how long this will take. Sometimes the doctors have to look after someone urgently or liaise with the hospital before they can see you. Please let our receptionists know if you are concerned about the amount of time you have been waiting.

Do I need a PayPal Account to order scripts?
